Despite the significant role family physicians play in Alzheimer's care\, they may not diagnose ma ny cases until substantial neurodegeneration and loss of independence have already occurred.\n\n\nThis session will highlight the importance of time ly diagnosis and the evolving landscape of Alzheimer's biomarkers\, includ ing cerebrospinal fluid and emerging blood-based biomarkers. Health profes sionals mainly use current biomarkers\, such as amyloid PET scans and cere brospinal fluid biomarkers\, in research and limited clinic settings. But medical experts anticipate their clinical application to increase with the regulatory approval of disease-modifying therapies. Emerging blood-based biomarkers promise to be less invasive and more accessible\, potentially t ransforming clinical practice. The presenter will discuss the ethical impl ications of biomarker use and the need for a foundational shift in clinica l vigilance. Dr. Shah did his geriatric fellowship at the Mayo Clinic with a special focus on the ea rly detection of dementia. He also holds a master&rsquo\;s in public healt h from Des Moines University and was the 2021 College of Health Sciences A lumni of the Year. Dr. Shah was the chief medical officer and vice preside nt of medical affairs for Broadlawns Medical Center during the COVID-19 pa ndemic. Before joining Broadlawns&rsquo\; medical staff\, he was the found ing associate dean of global health at Des Moines University.
